The adventure that I kept forgetting to write about.

So ya'll might remember that Miss CarrieJo was set to get a kitten.

Which resulted in a ridiculous adventure all the way up to Canada.

CANADA, PEOPLE.

Apparently there wasn't a decent cat in the greater Seattle area so we had to venture to the Great White North. The next stop was Mexico, I swear.

Ok maybe not quiiiiiite Canada. We didn't need passports, but we were mere miles from the border.

So, CANADA, ok?

Miss CarrieJo can be a bit of a worrier. She is a free spirit and a believer that things will fall into place, however that does not stop her from over, over, over analyzing things.

I mean it's a kitten, for godsakes. WHO DOESN'T LOVE A KITTEN?
"I just have high expectations for him. This is not a good way to start a relationship. I shouldn't put expectations on him that he can't live up to yet."
I talked her down from that one with a firm, I'M NOT DRIVING TO CANADA FOR YOU TO BACK OUT OF THIS.
Then, the realization,
"I forgot to put on deoderant."
Pause.
Pause.
Pause.
"That's good. He can smell my pheromones."
I told her I was going to make her drive home with him in her armpit the whole way.
Finally, new parent paranoia set in,
"What if he gets hit by a tiny kittensized meteor, and turns into red kitty dust?!"
This last bit may have been my fault, as I told her that if she kept stressing about it something BAD was going to happen. But I meant more along the lines of me leaving her in CANADA and taking the car home by myself.

We finally got there and pulled up to THIS. EFFING. HOUSE.

Are you kidding me? People really live like this? My 6 square inches of luxury were starting to look sad. And very full of pets already. Imagine if we had this much space?!
Anyway, Miss CarrieJo just about had a fit because OMFGWTFBBQ this was, like, HER DREAM HOUSE. IT WAS FATE.

Well thank effing god. I already told her I didn't drive to CANADA for nothing.

And then. And then, this:

So, yeah. The kitten was a go. And Miss CarrieJo had to remind me that Mr. M told me that we are only allowed 5 hearbeats in our house, so I can't come home with another (there were extra kittens. EXTRA KITTENS PEOPLE.)

And then, I taught her the first important lesson of pet parenting.

Pets can be left in crates while you get a beer, kids can't.

Boundary Bay. Worth the trip to Canada.

Oh yeah, so was the kitten.

She named him Woodrow.

This was in January. Woodrow is starting to get lanky and teenager-y. Miss CarrieJo is so unbelievably in love. It reminds me of when I got my babies.

And sometimes, just sometimes, when they don't know I'm looking, I can still see their kitten faces.

I hope Miss CarrieJo will always see Woodrow's too.

I heart my cat. He's wonderful because he only punishes me when I truly deserve it, like when I don't let him outside or I put him in his kitty crate and take him to the vet for his senior wellness check. Then he yells at me and throws up.

He just melts my heart.

oooh, sweet baby.

I have to say though, I am a bit angry that you didn't tell me/invite me to go to Boundary Bay with you. I live a mere miles from canada too....friend (or so you say). :)

love you

That kitten was definitely worth travelling to canada for!!

Color me confused. I mean, he's cute as hell and I'll always be partial to greys ... but seriously, this is depressing to me. So the United States' pet overpopulation wasn't enough, and people in Canada don't spay/neuter their cats? What was wrong with the local shelter? (And yeah, I just watched a litter of grey and grey/whites pushed in a gas chamber, so I'm slightly sore).

I'm just very confuzzled.

I wasn't super clear about that...

We did NOT cross the border, we were just in northern Washington in a city near the border.

The litter was one she found when she was visiting friends (again, IN Washington) and the kittens needed a home. We had also looked in our area, finding many to choose from, she chose this one.

We did NOT cross the border for a kitten. I was just giving her a hard time, because it was a bit of a drive north.

Hope that eases your mind a bit.

Also, I'm sorry to hear that you had to see that happen to the litter.

This litter would have been shelter bound.

I don't know the back story as to why this woman's cat had kittens, but in our family we do our best to rescue no matter the circumstance.

It's too bad we can't take them all in, but I think Miss CarrieJo made a sound choice.

Christina, that was a bitchy-ass comment and I'm sorry. Chalk it up to jet lag and a bad day at the shelter, but it doesn't excuse it, and I am sorry. Thanks for clarifying, though it wasn't necessary. I'm sure she did the right thing and at the end of the day, the kitten's in good hands, which is what matters.
